A direct sequel to the adjacent print, this engraving represents the wedding ceremony held on June 9, 1660, in the church of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and performed by the bishop of Bayonne. Wearing a royal gown and crown, Maria Theresa is about to be fully assimilated into the French court.
By rendering these two tapestries, Edme Jeaurat continued the work of his famous father-in-law, Sébastien Le Clerc, who fifty years earlier had engraved five scenes from the same series.
