In addition to the groups forming the Baths of Apollo (designated here as E and F), the Grotto housed statues of the shepherd-turned-river Acis (C) and the sea nymph Galatea (D), tragic lovers known from Ovid’s Metamorphoses. The water features included a large jet strong enough to reach the vault (B) and a hydraulic organ (G).
